Why is it that while most hot dogs come in packs of 8, most hot dog buns come in packs of 6?

I’m just curious what the logic is behind it all. Perhaps it is a marketing ploy to make us buy 6 packs of hot dogs and 8 packs of buns?

People ask this question all the time and I find it very confusing. All the hot dog buns (Stroehmans, Sweetheart) I buy come in packs of 8.

    Hah, good question, Idk…

  • Hailee D says:

because they want you to buy MORE hot dogs and twice as many buns to compensate.

Or they could be thinking about drunk people, when they drop one or the other in the fire.

  • alwaysmoose says:

That way you have to buy 24 of them to come out even. If they really wanted to make money they would package them in prime number increments.

thats all it is just a marketing ploy to make us buy more, you buy more buns then you end up buying more hotdogs and on and on and on and on

I think it is a marketing scam. heh heh heh…

I say its for the two hot dogs my son will eat without the roll. He don’t like bread that much. But realistically its probably has something to do with what you said. Gotta buy 24 total to get the math to work out though. Kinda like gasoline – they charge you to the 9/10ths on the penny just so you gotta pay that extra cent.

Could be a ploy. Mostly i see 8 packs of buns. But i’ve noticed i can find 10 packs of hot dogs too, but not buns.

Ah the age old question, if you figure this out you will know the meaning of life grasshopper.

  • Rachel P says:

because, the last two hot dogs are for the gorlacks, and gorlacks don’t like bread. they’re also lactose intolerant.

  • Bunny says:

To confuse and confound us into having to buy more hot dog buns than actual hot dogs, so, go figure, gotta love those morons up in marketing that just love to twiddle with people. Just get even with them, buy the 16 pack of hot dog buns, put half in the freezer, and get 2 packs of dogs, HA knew we were smarter than them!

  • COACH says:

That has long been a good question and I still don’t know the answer. It seems to defy logic.

  • gymgod_paul_uk says:

Personally, I normally eat the 2 spare ones while I’m ‘checking’ to see if the hotdogs are ‘warm enough’ yet.

Being serious though, bakers traditionally make things in twelves and sixes (dozen & half-dozen). Meat (hotdogs) however is normally sold by the weight so it might just mean that 8 hotdogs normally rounds to a convenient weight (i.e. 500g).

Your also assuming that buns are made for just hotdogs.
