    Step 1: Get rid of excess body fat. 6-14% is considered good for a male athlete. You get rid of fat by using more calories than you take in. Eat healthy, drink lots of cold water, and have a balanced program of cardio and weights.

    Step 2: Proper exercises. The rectus abdominus consists of approximately 50% fast twitch and 50% slow twitch muscle fibers, so you need to do crunches and weighted crunches. The function of the rectus abdominus is to pull the rib cage toward the hips, so do crunches, not situps. Also do hanging crunches (hold onto a bar above your head and crunch your hips toward your rib cage). Concentrate on a full contraction of the muscle at the highest point of the crunch, then lowering very slowly. Muscle mass is built through intramuscular degradation, and this happens most in negative movements (going back, not crunching in). Squats and other heavy-weight exercises are equally important because the abs are used as stabilizers in these exercises. Don’t concentrate exclusively on crunches.

    Most ab machines don’t work very well because they don’t accurately imitate the necessary crunching movement. I would recommend staying away from those unless that’s all you have. Weighted crunches can be done at a gym with cables; grab a rope attached to a cable, put it across the top of your neck, get in a kneeling position, and crunch down.

    Step 3: Regulate sodium intake. Subcutaneous sodium is the last thing to beat, so avoid sodium whenever possible. Saunas may also help flush your system.

    Sit ups, Crunches, etc. The Plank-> http://www.mensfitness.com/fitness/ab_exercises/459 The sit-up -> http://www.mensfitness.com/fitness/ab_exercises/212

    Christiano Ronaldo[look him up if you don't know who he is] has amazing abs, he does 100 sit ups every day. You should start with 30 to 50 sit ups every day[Do as many as you can, if you have the strength for more, DO THEM!] 5 days a week, don’t be afraid to skip a day if you like. Then go increasing the number…Add some Planks and Crunches, look up some other ab exercises that you could do…Don’t start doing weights on your abs till later on as you could injure yourself badly…

    Have fun!
